Don’t let them eat cake!
A private chef accused staff at a Midtown steakhouse of taking half the cake he had baked and bringing it to his friend’s birthday dinner this week — a sweet betrayal the restaurant described as “totally bogus.”
In a now-viral TikTok posted on Thursday, Ryan Nordheimer, 25, claimed Quality Meats staff served 12 dinner guests only a “tiny” portion of the “massive” 15-layer Funfetti cake he had spent six hours baking it. the occasion.
“At the end of dinner, when we asked our waiter where the leftover cake was, we expect them to bring out the remaining half of the cake — but instead, they just say there’s no cake left,” Nordheimer said. in the first video almost 6 million times.
The chef, who lives in the East Village, had asked to personally cut the cake – which he claimed was worth “hundreds of dollars” – but the restaurant refused, calling it a “security risk”, he explained in the three-minute clip . .
“So the only explanation is that this high-end steakhouse in Midtown New York took the cake back to the kitchen, cut us all a few slices of cake to eat, and they just ate the rest of it, Nordheimer continued. .
The cake massacre soon drew outrage.
“As a former fine dining server we would be fired if we did this,” one TikToker wrote.
“This is crazy and you should face the restaurant,” said another.
A representative for Quality Meats, however, insisted there were only two slices of cake left — “not half the cake” as Nordheimer claimed — and that the staff had not treated themselves to dessert.
“While we acknowledge that we failed to pack the remaining two slices, allegations that staff ate the cake are completely false,” the rep said.
The restaurant ate humble pie, reaching out to Nordheimer to apologize and offer a free dinner.
Nordheimer, for his part, changed his tune in a separate TikTok post on Friday — and asked his beleaguered followers to “take a chill pill” over the fiasco.
“There’s a lot of people in that restaurant just trying to make a living like all of us, and they’ve admitted it was a mistake, and I think we all make mistakes, so I can live with that,” he said. .
